I believe God has designed us to be in a relationship with Him. This relationship is made possible by the gift of His son Jesus Christ. What stands in the way of us having this relationship is us. We are by nature separated from God. Because of our selfishness and pride we have chosen to turn our backs on God by engaging in sin. We have chosen to be lord and rulers of our lives when the privilege rightfully belongs to God, our creator. The only way in which we can come to God is by confessing our need of Him and that we have attempted to run our own lives without Him. First John 1:10 in the Bible states, "If we confess our sin He (God) is faithful and just and will forgive us our sin." God guarantees He will forgive us, but we must accept that forgiveness as a free gift. There is nothing you can do to earn this gift, it is totally free. You can not gain forgiveness by attending church, by giving money, by being good, by having a positive attitude, or any other number of things man has tried. The only way to have God's forgiveness is to simply accept it. Once we have accepted His forgiveness (which is God's part) we must then repent (which is our part). This simply means that we must turn away from the lifestyle we once lived and begin to live by God's standards, directions, and control. We must give the pilot's seat of our lives to God, praising and honoring Him in all that is good in our lives. If this is your desire, I would encourage you to take a few minutes right now to pray and seek God's forgiveness. You can pray a simple prayer like this . . . "God, I know that I am a sinner. I have attempted to run my life by my own standards and controls. I now confess that I need you and I confess that I am living in sin. Will you please forgive me. I will accept your forgiveness and now live my life for you. Amen." Congratulations!! If you just prayed that prayer and meant it, you are now God's child. He has forgiven you and you are on the records of heaven. You no longer need to fear death for we are guaranteed that when we die we will be in paradise with God. If you have prayed the prayer, drop me a note and let me know about your decision.
