Pastor John was born and raised in Indiana.  In 1992, after completing college at Indiana Wesleyan University, Pastor John and his wife Michelle moved to West Union, Iowa where he became Pastor at Valleyview Community Wesleyan Church.  While in Iowa, the Bakers began their family. They now have two daughters who are now 18 and 12 and a son who is 16.
In the summer of 1999, Pastor John moved to Oakdale, Minnesota to pastor the Oakdale Wesleyan Church.  He brought with him an enthusiasm for reaching out to people with God's love, bringing them into a right relationship with our Heavenly Father and a passion for Holiness (to help people grow to be more like God in their lives).  Pastor John enjoys preaching.  His preaching style is both practical and inspirational.  With a good sense of humor and wit, his messages captivate and motivate people to live out a Godly lifestyle every day of the week.

Assistant Pastor: Dr. John Zimmer

After working for as a counselor for the Billy Graham association Dr. Zimmer came on staff as a part-time assistant to help with counseling and teen ministries at our church.  Dr. John is a trained Temperament Therapist and Counselor and brings many years of pastoral counseling experience with him.  Appointments can be made with Dr. John to help on a wide range of issues facing many individuals from grief support to marriage counseling, from depressions to sexual disorders.  He also works with our youth department as an adult advisor and "Chaplin" on Wednesday nights.  Each Wednesday Dr. John shares from his heart his passion for God's love as a "grandpa" figure for our teen group which currently runs over 20 teens every Wednesday.  John has a keen ability to connect with teens and adults of all ages.  For members of our church many of Dr. John's services are free but he is more than happy to share his abilities with anyone from our community for a small fee.  If you would like to set up a time to meet with Dr. John or have more questions about the services he can offer you please feel free to call him or send him an e-mail.

Multi-Cultural Pastor: Rev. Alphonso Johnson

This past winter we added a new pastor on staff at Oakdale Church.  We have a passion to reach all cultures for Jesus Christ and we can not be limited by our own culture.  We therefore brought on staff Rev. Alphonso Johnson to help us open up a door of ministry to the Liberian Community of St. Paul.  Rev. Johnson was trained in our Liberian Wesleyan Schools in Africa and comes to us with a passion to reach his people group for Jesus.  With the help of his assistant, Edward Carter, they work to lead an African style worship service each Sunday beginning at 12:30 PM.
